Family vacations are a great time to get away from the world and spend some time with each other. Especially when kids are in school and parents are working, it can be awhile in between times when the whole family can sit down together and catch up on each other’s lives. If you work a lot, it can be difficult even trying to get away from work or get time off. Sometimes, even if you have the paid time off stored up, falling behind on work can be a worry. However, if you are going to be traveling with your family then it is highly recommended to leave all electronic devices at home so you aren’t even tempted to start working while you are supposed to be with your family.
Now that that’s settled, where should you go? It can be hard to find a place where everyone can have a good time. Everyone has different interests and hobbies and finding something that works for everyone narrows our choices quite a bit. But, the nice thing is, there are places that everyone loves to go and it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Here are some ideas for places you could go that would accommodate everyone.
Family campgrounds
Family campgrounds generally have great amenities either on the grounds themselves or very close by. There are usually water parks or sports and theme parks as well as outdoor ventures like bike riding and mountain climbing that are available. Another great thing about family campgrounds is they are usually located far from the city where the network signal isn’t very strong. This eliminates having to be the bad guy and taking away the kids phones and tablets. They probably won’t work once you get to the family campgrounds anyway! Family camping trips are a great idea because it can be relaxing or you can stay busy, depending on what each person prefers. You also have the choice between tent camping and staying in cabin rentals.
Theme Parks
There is literally something for everyone there. If you like big scary roller coasters then take advantage! But if you don’t, or are traveling with younger children, you can always forego the big rides and move on to the the carrousels or other smaller and less intense rides. If you aren’t into rides at all, most theme parks have a variety of different kinds of shows you can attend from magic shows to Broadway type musicals.
The Beach
If you are lucky enough to live near a beach then this might not be such a novelty to the family but if you live in a cooler climate, a beach vacation could be just what the doctor ordered. There are tons of different water sports that could be attempted such as surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, water bubbling and more. If some of you prefer to stay on the beach there’s whatever you bring such as reading materials and games or there’s sand volleyball, building sand castles and of course a ton of cold treats to partake in. That will surely not be complained about by anyone.
Bucket List
Do you and your family have a bucket list of things you’d like to do or places you’d like to go? A great idea for family vacations may but to knock some of those out. You could start with the person who has a place on their bucket list that is close by and then venture out from there. While some of the kids might not be into the others choices, just remind them that next time might be their turn and they’d want their sibling to not ruin it for them and that should be a good motivator.
The most important thing about a family vacation is that you are all together. There may fights and there may be bickering and disagreements but as long as you are all together the potential to make wonderful and lasting memories is high. It does not have to be a long trip and it does not need to be expensive. It just needs the family and time to disconnect from technology and from real life and find out what is going on in each other’s heads.
